What am I missing here? If I take the slow route, won't I eventually max out certain skills at a later time than AUR booster users? Won't I reach the top of the skill tree, but perhaps have less branches skilled into than them?
At that point, when I am up against someone with 20M SP to my whatever SP, but I am running proto gear w/ maxed passive skills, isn't that the ceiling for us both for that loadout at any particular time?
If they can use proto gear for every suit, or can use every proto weapon, what does that matter since we can both only use 1 load out at a time? Shouldn't that even the field if I stick w/ my 1 specific loadout v.s. them in whatever maxxed suit/weapon they got with at any moment?
Maybe they have more flexibility and combat adaptability and it's true, I'll never catch up - no doubt. That kind of sucks, but the penalty seems to be in flexibility. I don't think I'll be completely getting owned by these folks game after game once I 'catch up'.... besides, maybe my skills will be better as it cost more time investment for my SP.
Either way, I'm all for AUR items. I don't mind if people use them. I don't mind if people boost SP past me and I don't mind getting shot a lot and dying as I take the slow road: I'm patient and I think overall it does more good for the people that don't have time to game than it does harm to those that can't catch up to the no-life/maxbooster users. |

DUST Fiend wrote:The problem arises when we move past Proto gear. Proto gear BETTER be a stepping stone, and just the lower end of the top end gear. Once that happens, it's going to take a long time to get into those suits, weapons, and modules. Having a 50% boost on a wait that long is absolutely massive.
Saying that eventually you'll get there is kind of a moot point because you'll never actually be on even footing with them. If you're playing against someone of equal skill who has a 50% SP advantage over you, you're going to have a rough time.
Word. My logic is based on the assumption that the ceiling is fixed. If it keeps increasing as new and better gear becomes available and additional tiers above proto open up continually, then I'll never catch up..... the only hope at that point becomes that the matchmaking gets fixed.
Of course, if folks can buy gear a few tiers up from what they can skill into regularly, by buying AUR items, then some folks won't be as disadvantated. Use AUR to create a skill gap for some players. Allow other players to close that gap by using AUR items and jumping on the bandwagon with AUR boosters.
Ingenious plan or inintended consequence of game design? Enquiring minds want to know..... |
